Do You Still Glow? Rediscovering the Radiance of a Long Walk with God
For just a moment, picture Moses coming off Mount Sinai, his face glowing so bright it spooked the Israelites (Exodus 34:29–30). He’d been with God, soaking up His glory, and it was like he was carrying a piece of heaven’s light. I bet you know that feeling—when you first met Jesus, or when God showed up in a big way. Your heart was on fire, your smile said it all, and you couldn’t stop talking about His love. I sure felt that glow years ago, fresh in my faith, ready to change the world. But here’s the question: after all these years walking with God, do you still glow like that? Or has life’s grind dulled your shine a bit?
I’ll be honest—I’ve been there. There’ve been seasons where my glow faded, big time. Dry spells hit me hard, like when I lost a business and those times where I felt totally distant from God. I’d go through the motions—prayer, church, you name it—but my heart wasn’t in it. I wondered, “Where’s that joy I had?” Moses faced his own struggles, leading a grumbling crowd through the desert, yet he kept climbing back to God’s presence to be filled up. If your glow’s dim, don’t feel alone. Ask: When did I last chase after God’s heart? What’s crowding out His voice? The beauty is, His light’s still there, waiting to spark you again, just like it did for me when I came back to Him.
Here’s something I learned the hard way. Don’t go it alone. Isolation dims your glow faster than anything. Shut out the noise—those endless notifications, worries, or to-do lists—and don’t make faith complicated with rules or guilt. And if you’re tired, feeling like nothing will ever change, don’t give up. God’s chasing after you like a loving Father, craving that close father-son or father-daughter time. He wants you to feel like you belong to Him, to know He’s walking every step with you. Run to Him, not away, and let His presence remind you: you’re His, and His light in you never fades.
So, what’s dimming your light right now? Stress? A hurt you’re holding tight? Or maybe just too many late night social media browsing? No shame here—just a chance to be real. God’s not looking for perfect; He’s looking for you, ready to meet Him on the mountain. I’ve got a few simple practices below that have helped me through the dull seasons, that might just help you both stay close to Him and keep your glow strong. Pick one or two to try this week—small steps light big fires.
Ways to Stay Close to God and Keep Your Glow
Pause for a Chat with God: Spend 5–10 minutes daily praying—thank Him, pour out your heart, or just sit quiet with Him.
Crack Open the Bible: Read a chapter (Psalms or John hit home) and pray over one verse that grabs you.
Lift Your Soul with Worship: Play a worship song and sing or reflect, letting His truth wash over you.
Bless Someone: Do one small kind thing—text a friend, help a neighbor, or pitch in at church.
Write Down His Faithfulness: Jot down one way God’s shown up lately to keep your heart grateful.
So, is your faith glowing, or could it use a little kindling? I’ve seen God reignite my heart after seasons of wandering, and I know He’s got that for you too. Think of someone who needs your light—maybe a kid, a friend, or someone at church. Share a bit of God’s goodness with them this week; it’ll fan your flame. You’re His masterpiece, made to shine His glory (Ephesians 2:10). So, let’s keep climbing, keep seeking Him, and glow together!
